China plays foul yet again; alleges NC, Indian media for fabricating reports

KATHMANDU: Misrepresentations on the border pillar by some Indians and westerners along with some Nepali political parties against China have continued to be hyped up in recent years, Beijing’s mouthpiece Global Times has reported.

The report quoting some pro-Chinese Nepali “experts” said the influence of Indians and westerners in Nepal is aimed at disturbing China.

According to the report, some reports, citing anonymous Nepalese politicians, said Chinese military had crossed the China-Nepal border in Nepal’s Humla district and moved the pillars used to demarcate the boundary into Nepalese territory for China to construct military bases.

It alleged the Nepali Congress (NC) as the main institution behind the rumors.

“NC lawmaker of Karnali Province, Jeevan Bahadur Shahi, had initiated the accusation against China,” the report said quoting a Nepal-based journalist.

It should be noted that a team led by after returning from an 11-day visit to Nepal-China border in Humla in October had accused China of encroaching on Nepal’s territory in the district.

The Global Times report said that a number of Indian media organizations began hyping the so-called China-Nepal border encroachment issue following Shahi’s visit to the border.
