NC leader Rijal dubs Nidhi’s aspiration for party president positive



KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) central member Dr Minendra Rijal has termed Vice-president Bimalendra Nidhi’s aspiration to contest for the post of party President as positive.

The NC is scheduled to hold its 14th general convention in February 2021.

Dr Rizal took to Twitter saying, “It is a positive step. I am not sure whether he will be successful or not but it is still to be seen whether he will be able to lead the party without discrimination.”

NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, meanwhile, is trying to postpone the general convention citing the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the NC statute, the party should hold the general convention within six months of the extension.

Other aspirants for the top post include Deuba, Senior Leader Ram Chandra Poudel, Gopal Man Shrestha, General Secretary Shashank Koirala, leader Shekhar Koirala.
