More than 200 shifted to safer locations in Tanahu

TANAHU: More than 200 members of 43 households living near the Seti river in Shuklagandaki municipality have been shifted to high ground, after heavy rainfall raised water levels in the river.

Of them 28 families are from ward no. 4 and 15 from ward no. 8 of the municipality. They have been taken to safer locations with the help of police and army in collaboration with the locals, said police inspector at Area Police Office in Belchautara Jagdish Regmi. Continuous rainfall however is constraining the relief and rescue work.

The flooded river has also posed risk to the bridge linking ward no. 4 and 8 and the concrete bridge at Pulchowk, said information officer of the municipality, Trilochan Lamsal.

“If the downpour continues, it is likely to have serious affect on people’s lives and property,” he said.
