Locust to be bought for 100 rupees per kg

JHAPA: The Arjundhara Municipality in Jhapa has allocated a budget of Rs. 500,000 to purchase locusts.

The budget has been set aside in order to minimize the damage from the locust to the agriculture sector, said Mayor Hari Kumar Rana.

The municipality will pay anyone collecting and bringing the locusts to the office Rs. 100 per kilogram.

It then plans to then sell the locust to the feed industries for Rs. 50 per kg, to be produced as animal feed.

“It is an effort to minimize the possible damage,” Mayor Rana said. Meanwhile, the Arjundhara municipality received health supplies from Member of Parliament of Jhapa constituency no. 2 Pabitra Niroula.

The support includes sanitizer, mask, surgical cap and goggles, gloves etc. The support comes at a time when the municipality is recording a rise in number of people infected by the Corona Virus.
