Kakarvitta transit opens after one month

KAKARVITTA: The Kakarvitta-based eastern transit with India has opened on Saturday following a month closure by the West Bengal government over coronavirus pandemic.

One-way import and export into Nepal was halted after the government closed the transit at Panitanki since April 8.
Indian customs office at Panitanki has informed of the resumption of the transit, said chief of the Mechi Customs Office, Dhurba Bishwokarma, adding that 30 vehicles carrying coal and goods entered Nepal through the transit on Saturday.

Of the vehicles that entered Nepal, 25 were stuck in the office premises. Import of essentials from India into Nepal had been halted following the closure of the transit.

Difficulties have surfaced after the Indian customs office orally informed that empty vehicles would not be allowed to enter India through the transit.
