KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has opted for an all-party high level mechanism as the best means to fight COVID-19.

Without directly pointing out that the government has turned a failure, Chairman Dahal has shown his dissatisfaction at the government’s performance in an interview with a television channel opting for an all-party high-level mechanism.

“I have even spoken to the prime minister and the party secretariat during a meeting,” Dahal said in the interview.

Earlier, prior to proclamation of the new constitution in 2015, there was a High Level All Party Mechanism to seek consensus on the issues of dispute.

Reiterating that all parties stand together to overcome this pandemic he said, “We must go ahead together by forming a structure including the ruling and opposition parties and important personalities. I feel that kind of structure will instill confidence in the people. I have urged the PM and leaders of political parties to think about that.”

Despite his hints at the irregularities he defended the nationwide lockdown imposed by the government.

He assured that the Prime Minister has assured a probe into the issues concerning irregularities.

“These issues were discussed even in our Secretariat Meeting and the PM has assured any kind of irregularities will be thoroughly investigated,” Dahal said adding, “I want the mistakes, if there any, be duly corrected.”

There are speculations about the widening rifts between the two chairmen.
