Canadian Speaker Furey refuses to visit Speaker Sapkota



KATHMANDU: The Speaker of the Senate of Canada George Furey who is on a two-day visit to Nepal has no schedule to visit his Nepal’s counterpart Agni Prasad Sapkota.

Speaker Furey, who touched down the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) at 9:30 am today, has already visited National Assembly Chairman Ganesh Timalsina at 12 pm.

Similarly, he is scheduled to observe the NA meeting at 2 pm prior to visiting members of Nepal-Canada Parliamentary Friendship Group.

“Canadian Speaker is not visiting Speaker Sapkota since his schedule was prepared before the appointment of Sapkota as the parliament speaker,” Dr Bharat Raj Gautam, secretary at the Parliament Secretariat told Khabarhub.

According to the source, he is scheduled to visit Prime Minister at 10 am on Tuesday and Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali at 11 am.

He will also pay a call on Minister for Education Giriraj Mani Pokharel before visiting Patan Museum at 2 pm on Tuesday. He will return home wrapping up his two-day visit tomorrow.
