Prachanda proposes PM Oli to summon Secretariat meeting on Thursday

KATHMANDU: The ‘informal’ meeting of the Secretariat of ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) called by Executive Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ at Dhumbarahi has decided to wait for PM KP Oli for two more days.

The meeting decided to hold the meeting along with PM Oli on Thursday, said NCP Spokesperson Narayankaji Shrestha.

Before the meeting of the majority members in Dhumbarahi, Executive Chairman Prachanda had a meeting with the Prime Minister at the latter’s official residence in Baluwatar.

Spokesperson Shrestha said that PM Oli did not agree to convene the meeting Thursday.

“Prachanda has said that the meeting will be held on Thursday. We expect the Prime Minister to attend the meeting,” said Shrestha.

Senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal said that Prime Minister Oli had been requested to attend the meeting and that he should agree to participate in any way.

Prachanda, senior leaders Jhalanath Khanal and Nepal, Vice-Chairman Bamdev Gautam, and Spokesperson Shrestha sat for a meeting today after PM Oli had refused to summon Secretariat meeting.

The informal meeting held on Friday had decided to request PM Oli to summon a formal meeting.

It should be noted that NCP leaders who reached Baluwatar on Saturday afternoon with a letter demanding an immediate meeting of the Secretariat, however, had returned empty-handed failing to convince Prime Minister Oli.

No agreement was reached between PM Oli and the disgruntled faction led by Prachanda on convening the meeting of the nine-member Secretariat pushing further uncertainty within the party.

Earlier, PM Oli had warned that provided a meeting is called without his consent, he would regard it as the starting point for party split.
