Govt a ‘total failure’ in controlling COVID-19 pandemic: NC

KATHMANDU: Main opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) has concluded that the government has been an utter failure in controlling the coronavirus pandemic.

The opposition party’s views come at a time when the country, including the Kathmandu Valley, has witnessed a surge in COVID-19 cases of late.

The party has urged one and all to maintain preventive measures as the government seems to be least bothered to stem the spread of the deadly virus.

Coordinator of the NC’s COVID-19 monitoring committee Dr Prakash Saran Mahat lambasted the government for being negligent in combatting the coronavirus pandemic as it is hell-bent on appointing people on the basis of nepotism.

Dr Mahat also labeled the government’s High-Level Coordination Committee as a total failure in this regard.
He came down heavily on the government for financial irregularities in the name of the pandemic, particularly while procuring medical supplies.

“It is high time that the country and people needed a competent leadership,” he said adding, “Hopes have been shattered now.”

Expressing disappointment over the government’s incompetency, he said, “Do not trust the government anymore.” He also urged people to stay safe at home.
