Communications Ministry applauds cable operators’ decision take Indian news channels off air

KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has thanked cable and digital television operators in Nepal for stopping the broadcasting of Indian new channels.

In a press release issued on Friday, the ministry has termed the spontaneous decision to stop broadcasting on Indian news channels engaged in propaganda against Nepal as a sense of responsibility.

A statement from the ministry said, “The ministry thanks Nepal’s digital cable service providers for spontaneously stopping the broadcasting of the channels taking account of some media outlets telecasting baseless contents insulting Nepal’s esteemed institutions and leadership.”

Cable television operators in Nepal took all Indian news channels except the state-owned Doordarshan off air from Thursday evening for continuously disseminating news that jeopardizes the nation, nationality, sovereignty and self-respect of Nepalis.
