Police bar traders from opening shops in New Road

KATHMANDU: Police on Wednesday barred local shopkeepers of the New Road area from opening their shops.

The traders were not allowed to open their shops in the New Road area, Kathmandu’s major business hub, this morning.

On Tuesday also, police had barred the traders from pulling up their shutters, and a result the two sides had clashed.

Police repeatedly urged traders to not open their shops citing the lockdown restrictions that were imposed to control the spread of coronavirus.

Businessmen have warned of intensifying protests if the government did not relax the lockdown restrictions.

They have also warned of handing over their keys and padlocks to the authorities if they were not allowed to run their businesses.
