KATHMANDU: Minister for Defense Ishwor Pokhrel has emphasized on holding extensive discussions to minimize the climate change effects and adaption.
He said Nepal has been worst hit by climate change.
Speaking at a pre-discussion of ‘Sagarmatha Sambad’ (Sagarmatha Dialogue) in Kathmandu on Sunday, Minister Pokhrel said Nepal’s mountains, lifestyle and the ecological system had borne the scourge of climate change.
Nepal is hosting the ‘Sagarmatha Sambad’, a flagship global forum to generate discourse on the national, regional and international concerns facing Nepal as well as other countries across the world from April 2 to 4 this year in Kathmandu.
The theme of the ‘Sagarmatha Dialogue’ has been ‘Climate Change, Mountains and the Future of Humanity’.
Stating that it is high time that all sectors built resilience to tackle climate change, Minister Pokhrel said that Nepa, including other least developed countries, were at high risk of climate change.
Minister Pokhrel said developed nations are more responsible for contributing to climate change.
“Least developed countries such as Nepal do not have not much role in generating carbon emission,” he said.
