Using cough drops or hard candies can sometimes be useful to relive yourself from cough and sore throat.

Certain herbal cough drops or menthol can soothe your sore throat. Sucking on plain hard candy can also work.

You can also try a teaspoon of honey. This traditional remedy may help soothe coughs, and for sore throat. Add a spoonful to your tea. However, do not give honey to kids under 1 year old.

You can also sip warm chicken soup or tea to heat up your airways. This will hydrate you, and keep you warm and makes it easier to cough up.

You can also use a cough medicine. Expectorants can help you cough up mucus. However, consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking expectorants.

You can also use a decongestant, which will help to clear your stuffy nose. However, decongestants are not safe for children under age 4.
