KATHMANDU: A group of disgruntled Nepali Congress (NC) party district presidents, who have been alleging President Sher Bahadur Deuba of failing to run the party in accordance with the statute, submitted a five-point recommendation to the latter today.

The district presidents were invited by Deuba for a ‘breakfast meeting’ at his residence in Budhanilkantha today.

Deuba received the memorandum and reiterated his usual stance of party unity and assured his ‘guests’ of holding immediate talks with all the disgruntled party leaders.

He reiterated his efforts towards strengthening the party organization and mechanism when the district presidents urged Deuba to mend his ways and correct the latest central working committee decisions, and forge consensus with disgruntled factions.

According to Nuwakot district party president, Jagadishwor Narsingh KC, they urged party President Deuba to reconsider what they said ‘unilateral’ decision of the central committee decision of extending his tenure by another one year, among others.

They reminded Deuba that all decisions on the party’s general conventions in the past were made on the basis of the consent of the full central committee.

The district presidents also told the party President that the appointments in party departments were against the code of conduct. The appointments and nominations should be made on the basis of qualification and competence, not nepotism, they demanded.

The disgruntled district leaders also urged Deuba to form a special committee to investigate the distribution of active membership to ensure fairness in the upcoming general convention.

Deuba had invited around 45 district presidents, mostly loyal to party senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel, who were in Kathmandu for a three-day meeting to formulate a strategy on their future moves. The meeting ended Wednesday.

The main opposition party NC is caught in a row after Deuba unilaterally extended his term by another one year and announced the date for the next general convention.

Deuba’s term expires in March 2020 but extended until March 3, 2021. Likewise, the central committee meeting held in December 22 also fixed the dates for the next general convention from February 19-22, 2021.
