No conducive environment for 9th national games yet: Jeevan Ram Shrestha

KATHMANDU: The coronavirus pandemic has almost paralyzed sports activities of the country together with other sectors.

Speaking at an interaction program organized by the National Sports Council (NPC), Jeevan Ram Shrestha, Chairman of Nepal Olympic Committee made it clear that there was no conducive environment to organize the ninth National Games in the country yet.

“Organizing national sports events is not feasible due to the coronavirus pandemic still spreading in the country,” Chairman Shrestha said, adding, “The pandemic us still there. It is a national sports festival, so going through the formalities is not enough. It’s more about finding talent than weeding it.”

He remarked that though the talks about coronavirus vaccine are in the market, it will take a considerable time for it to arrive in Nepal and we do not have enough time for the preparation of the events for March next year.

“Organizing the event without enough preparation declines its dignity; it takes time to make conducive environment for mega events,” he said adding, “It’s better to postpone the event for the time being and continue practice sessions at local levels.”

Various officials of the sports association are putting their views in the ongoing program at the International Sports Complex.
