DOHA: The Non-Resident Nepalese Association (NRNA) – National Co-ordinating Council in Qatar conducted an awareness session on the new laws for changing one’s employer and the national minimum wage in Qatar.
The session was conducted with 15 Nepalis community leaders participating in person and about 55 online.
The program was held in line with the objective of NRNA to bring labour education and information to the Nepalis community in Qatar, a press statement noted.
Three heads of offices at the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (MADLSA) were the guest speakers.
They were Yousif Ali Abdulnur, head of the Transfer of Employment Section; Mohamed Saeed al-Marri, head of the Inspection Section; and Ali Khalaf, head of the Labor Information Awareness Team.
The president of NRNA–NCC Qatar, Mohamed Muktda Musalman, expressed his appreciation for the ministry’s efforts to include the Nepalese community in its various programs for the protection and promotion of the rights and welfare of migrant workers in Qatar.
The session provided an opportunity for Nepalese community leaders to discuss information and issues with MADLSA representatives concerning the new laws on changing employer, the national minimum wage and other subjects of interest to both workers and employers, the statement noted.
Marco Ferrer, a representative of the global union BWI and community liaison officer of the ministry, conveyed the pleasure of Mohamed Hassan al-Obaidly, Assistant Undersecretary for Labor Affairs at MADLSA, on the mutual support and co-operation between the ministry and the Nepalese community.
Khalaf emphasized during the session that “we are here for you and you can approach us anytime to respond to the needs and concerns of your constituents”.
Aside from the president of NRNA–NCC Qatar, other officials who participated in person are Rajendra Kumar Sharma, Prabin Gurung, Tek Bahadur Karki, Raj Regmi, Bimal Subedi, Ramesh Bhatt, Chanak Pokhrel, Mohamed Aziz Ali, Manish Yadav, Uttam Gurung, Kumar Khadka, Sarita Bhandari, Padam Giri and Hamiuddin Musalman.
Nepal embassy labour counsellor, Krishna Prasad Khanal, also participated in person. He voiced the embassy’s satisfaction regarding the ongoing labour reforms that the government is implementing.
