KATHMANDU: Talks between the government team and Dr. Govinda KC’s representatives ended inconclusively once again on Friday.
Talks were held at the Ministry of Education to address the demands of Dr. KC who has been on a hunger strike for 26 days with various demands related to medical education and good governance.
The talks that started at 9 pm made no headway, said Dr. KC’s representative Dr. Jeevan Chhetri.
He said that the government had not prepared any mandate to address the demands during the talks, adding that the government was not serious about addressing Dr. KC’s demand and saving his life.
He further warned of launching further protest programs from tomorrow.
Dr. KC, who is on the 26th day of his 19th fast-unto-death at the TUTH, started his hunger strike calling for the implementation of his past agreements reached with the government.
Campaigner for reforms in the medical sector in Nepal, Dr. KC has said he would not break his hunger strike this time until a reliable base is formed for the implementation of his past agreements.
Meanwhile, earlier today, Dr KC’s medical team in a statement has said that health condition of Dr. KC, who is on the 26th day of fast-unto-death TUTH has deteriorated.
A statement issued by Prof. Dr. Subhash P. Acharya, Coordinator, Medical Team for Dr. KC, said that the latter has been complaining of intermittent palpitations (fast heart beat), chest pain, central, fatigue, muscle pain and cramps and repeated episodes of dizziness.
“He continues to have shortness of breath even on minimal exertion and today around 13:15 pm he developed difficulty in breathing,” the statement said adding that his oxygen saturation was 86-87% on room air.
Dr KC was given oxygen by face mask at 4-6 l/min and his oxygen saturation increased to 94-95%.
On clinical examination, according to the statement, his breath sounds are much diminished on right lower zones with fine crepitations and vocal resonance.
“In this regard, given his low white blood cell counts, chest X-ray and High Resolution CT (HRCT) Scan of the chest has been planned to rule out infectious complications (pneumonia),” the statement added.
Meanwhile, doctors supporting Dr KC has warned of escalating agitation from Saturday.
They have also accused Prime Minister KP Oli for deliberately delaying talks.
