Duo arrested for ‘selling’ two men in Malaysia on pretext of sending them to US



KATHMANDU: Police have arrested two persons on charges of human trafficking.

The Anti Human Trafficking Bureau of Nepal Police arrested the men on charges of torturing two men physically and mentally in Malaysia, on the pretext of sending them to the United States.

The Bureau arrested Rikesh Maharjan alias Ravi, 32, of Lalitpur Metropolitan City-7 on Monday and Kamala Lama, 22, of Namobuddha Municipality-9 of Kavre on Tuesday.

The duo took the men to Malaysia, saying they would take them to the United States. They defrauded the men of Rs 4.16 million.

When both the hostages returned to Nepal and filed a complaint alleging that they had been trafficked. Police had arrested Satish Bartaula allegedly involved in the trafficking on August 13.

A spokesperson at the Bureau said that they would be investigated and prosecuted as per the Human Trafficking and Transportation (Control) Act, 2064 BS.
