Indian news channels taken off air in Nepal

KATHMANDU: Cable television operators in Nepal have taken Indian news channels off air.

All Indian news channels, except the state-owned Doordarshan, have been taken off air from Thursday evening.

Vice-President of Max Digital TV Dhruv Sharma said the decision was taken after Indian news channels continuously disseminated news that jeopardizes the nation, nationality, sovereignty and self-respect of Nepalis.

However, the government clarified it didn’t direct to that end.

An error message is displayed when switched to an Indian news channel.

Earlier today, the government had made it clear that it would seek political and legal remedies against Indian media circulating propaganda on Nepal and the government.

At a press conference held at Singha Durbar on Thursday, government Spokesperson Dr. Yubaraj Khatiwada had said that the government would seek political and legal remedies against the Indian media.

Spokesperson Khatiwada had said that diplomatic means would also be mobilized to curb the misinformation being spread about Nepal by the Indian media.
