India sends diplomatic note protesting Nepal’s revised map

KATHMANDU: It has come to light that India has protested Nepal’s updated map through a diplomatic note.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sent information about the letter sent by India to the Delegated Management and Government Assurance Committee of the National Assembly.

In the meeting of the committee held on Thursday, Chairman Ram Narayan Bidari informed the parliamentary committee about the diplomatic note sent by India after Nepal issued the updated map including lands encroached by India.

“India has objected to the issuance of the new map. It has rejected our claim in a diplomatic note,” Bidari said, adding that the Foreign Ministry confirmed the House panel about the diplomatic note.

Bidari also said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had written to India thrice calling for talks to settle the border dispute, but the southern neighbor didn’t respond.

The government had released an updated political and administrative map of Nepal on May 20.

The updated map that includes Limpiyadhura, Lipu Lekh and Kalapani encroached by India has already become part of the national emblem through the constitution amendment.
