Deliberation on constitution amendment bill from today

KATHMANDU: Lawmakers are deliberating over the constitution amendment bill in the meeting of the federal parliament from today.

Minister for Law Shivamaya Tumbahamphe will table a proposal to consider the bill in the House of Representatives as per the business schedule, according to Dr Bharat Raj Gautam, General Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat.

The meeting has been slated for 11 am.

The bill is discussed in the parliament seven days after it is made public as per the provision.

Minister Tumbahamphe had on May 31 tabled the bill to amend Schedule 3 related to Article 9 (2) of the Constitution for including an updated map that includes Limpiyadhura, Lipu Lekh and Kalapani.

With the main opposition Nepali Congress supporting the bill, it will get two-thirds majority required for such an amendment.

The government had registered a bill for the amendment of the constitution at the Federal Parliament’s Secretariat to make room for the change in the map used in the national emblem.
