Chinese tourists demonstrate in Kathmandu demanding repatriation

KATHMANDU: A group of around 50 Chinese tourists on Thursday demonstrated in front of the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) demanding their repatriation to China amid the ongoing nationwide lockdown due to coronavirus pandemic.

Chinese tourists held placards with slogans that read “We want to go back home”, “Chinese tourists stranded in Nepal”,

They called for immediate repatriation to their homeland.

“We want to go back home,” a Chinese tourist said, adding, “When others can go, why can’t we?”

According to him, they are just representatives saying that more than 400 Chinese tourists stranded here due to the lockdown.

Meanwhile, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Hou Yanqi has already urged Chinese nationals in Nepal to stay safe and maintain distance.

Most of the Chinese here are students, who have come to Nepal for vacation.
