NA writes to five countries to procure health supplies

KATHMANDU: Nepali Army (NA) has sent letters to five countries seeking the approval to procure medical supplies required by the country. The NA sent letters to China, South Korea, Singapore, Israel, and India.

It has written to the countries on the basis of the list of supplies prepared by the COVID-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC), NA Spokesperson Bigyan Dev Pandey said.

The letters have already been forwarded to the respective countries through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he said.

NA is waiting for the responses from the countries and it will take decisions.

Pandey said the procurement process will begin on the basis of response that NA received on the list of necessary medical supplies. However, it is not possible to receive the quantities of materials seeking by the Army.

India has already banned the export of medical materials while South Korea again has the spread of coronavirus which affects the supply of the materials.

It should be recalled that the government had on last Wednesday revoked the contract with Omni Group – a company that brought the first lot of medical supplies from China.

The government had then decided to entrust the responsibility of bringing the medical materials to the Nepal Army through government to government (G2G) arrangements.
