BIRTAMOD: Several Jhapa-based cooperatives have joined hands to assist Rs 15 million to provide relief materials to the poor families amid the nationwide lockdown to control the spread of coronavirus.
District Cooperatives’ Association, Jhapa said that the Sahara Nepal Cooperatives Ltd Birtamod contributed Rs five million for charity.
The support was provided under social responsibility of the cooperatives.
The monetary assistance is meant to purchase daily essentials for indigent families who find it difficult to manage daily meals in this crisis.
Cooperatives supporting during this crisis are Karnali Cooperatives, Birtamod (800 thousand), Nepal Multi-Purpose Cooperatives Mechinagar (Rs 1.7 million), Simrik Cooperatives, Birtamod (Rs 800 thousand), Hamro Nepali Savings and Credit Ltd (Rs 400 thousand), and Mechi Cooperatives (Rs 200 thousand).
The cooperatives donated the amount to the relief fund set up at the State government.
Likewise, more than two dozen cooperatives in Jhapa have been cooperating with all 15 local levels in the district to ensure daily consumer goods for needy people, according to Association chair Ganesh Dhakal.
Similarly, two cooperatives in Jhapa have started providing an interest-free loan to their members during the crisis.
Each member is getting Rs 5,000 to run the family during crisis, Dhakal said.
