Emergency relief fund set up in Portugal to help Nepalis

LISBON: An emergency relief fund has been set up in Portugal for assisting the Nepali diaspora here. Honorary Consul of Nepal, Makar Bahadur Hamal is the coordinator of the fund set up through the Janachetana Samiti.

It is said the fund has been established in view of the Nepalis facing problem during the looming COVID-19 pandemic threat. The Samiti will raise funds, provide relief to the Nepalis facing problems, sensitize the Nepali community on COVID-19 and also collect data on the infected Nepalis.

Non-resident Nepalis Association (NRNA) Portugal president Tilak Gaire is the member-secretary of the Samiti.

The members of the Samiti are Nepali Janasamparka Samiti Portugal president Binod Ghimire, the Prabashi Nepali Ekata Manch president Govinda Poudel, Nepali Janapragatisheel Morcha Portugal president Purna Bahadur BK, the Nepali Ekata Samaj president Gom Subedi, the Nepali Samaj president Som Sherpa, the Nepali Naari Samaj president Kala Rai, the Nepali Mahila Samaj president Nirmala Dhakal and journalist Yogendra Milan Chhantyal.

The Samiti is also planning to constitute a Main Committee comprising the NRNA former president, the former and incumbent ICC members, heads of all the Nepalis’ organizations based in Portugal, businessmen and social workers.
