KATHMANDU: Vice Chairman of the Medical Education Commission Sri Krishna Giri has refuted allegations against him of demanding Rs 200 million in bribe to start the affiliation process for his medical college.
Giri’s refusal comes after the promoter of the Jhapa-based B&C Medical College Durga Prasai alleged Giri of demanding Rs 200 million in bribe.
Giri labeled the charges against him as baseless and malicious while condemning the allegations against him, which he said was aimed at defaming him.
He, however, confirmed that Prasai had approached him with the application but rejected the allegations of bribe. Giri added that Prasai had come to him with an application for the affiliation process, which he did not register since he had not brought along the necessary original documents.
Prasai has reached the commission on December 1 with the application seeking affiliation. Meanwhile, Prasai organized a press conference today alleging Giri of calling him to Dwarka’s Hotel in Gaushala and asked for the bribe.
Prasai had also alleged Giri of refusing to register the application after he flatly refused to pay the bribe.
