PM Oli seeks Nepal’s help to save NCP from split

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister and Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chairman KP Oli has requested senior leader Madhav Nepal to save the party from a split.

He requested leader Nepal and his group, informing them about the issues within the party.

Prime Minister Oli also hinted with leader Nepal that another Chairman, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, was trying to split the party.

“The party has reached on a verge of a split. Let’s all work to save it,” leader Raghuji Pant quoted PM as saying.

PM Oli had summoned leader Nepal a day after five Secretariat members including Executive Chairman Prachanda demanded to convene Secretariat meeting.

Leaders close to Nepal —Bhim Rawal, Surendra Pandey and Raghuji Pant—were also present in the discussion at PM’s official residence in Baluwatar.

It should be noted that NCP leaders who reached Baluwatar on Saturday afternoon with a letter demanding an immediate meeting of the Secretariat, however, returned empty-handed failing to convince Prime Minister Oli.

No agreement was reached between PM Oli and the disgruntled faction led by Prachanda on convening the meeting of the nine-member Secretariat pushing further uncertainty within the party.
