Australian Ambassador Budd pays farewell call on Minister Basnet

Stresses on further strengthening bilateral ties



KATHMANDU: Australian Ambassador to Nepal Peter Budd paid a farewell call on Minister for Forests and Environment Shakti Bahadur Basnet on Tuesday.

During the meeting, Minister Basnet said that it was 60 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Australia and the relations between the two countries were smooth and stressed on the need to further strengthen the bilateral relations.

Thanking Australia for its support in the field of community forests, Minister Basnet expressed the view that cooperation in the field of forests and environment would continue in the days to come.

Minister Basnet added that the COVID-19 has posed a challenge to the world and cooperation was needed to fight the pandemic.

He lauded the contribution made by Ambassador Budd during his stay in Nepal to strengthen Nepal-Australia relations and wished him success in the days to come.

During the meeting, Ambassador Budd stressed on the need to strengthen the cooperation between the two countries further.

Ambassador Budd said that there were some flights to Australia even during the lockdown and expressed optimism that it would continue as a commercial flight after COVID-19 pandemic subsides.

Praising Nepal’s nature-based tourism, the Australian Ambassador expressed his commitment to support and promote it in the days to come.

He recalled his visit to Chitwan and Bardiya and expressed his desire to visit Nepal in the coming days to see the red panda.

During the meeting, the issue of conducting COVID Recovery Program in Karnali was also discussed.
