WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump has confirmed the killing of Al-Qaeda leader Qassim al-Rimi in Yemen.

He said that the U.S. killed the Al-Qaeda leader who had earlier claimed responsibility for the mass shooting at an American naval base.

President Trump said in a statement that the U.S. conducted a counter-terrorism operation in Yemen killing Qassim al-Rimi.

The jihadist group was long been considered the most dangerous branch of the global terrorist network for its attempts to carry out attacks on the U.S.

Trump, however, did not reveal the details of the U.S. operation.
