KATHMANDU: The doctor who issued early warning on coronavirus has passed away due to the novel virus.

Li Wenliang passed away while undergoing treatment in Wuhan on Thursday, informed World Health Organization (WHO).

WHO informed about the death of Li in a press statement yesterday. Speaking on the occasion, officials of WHO said, “We are sad to lose Dr Li Wenliang.”

Li, a 33-year-old ophthalmologist based in Wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak, had captivated the country and triggered an extraordinary outpouring of emotion as he ailed, reported The Wall Street Journal.

Chinese state media reported Thursday night that Dr Li’s heart had stopped at around 9:30 p.m., and that he was immediately put on life support. He was pronounced dead later.
