KATHMANDU: Nepal Volleyball Association is going to organize RBB NVA National Women and Men Volleyball Club Championship.
Rasytriya Banijya Bank is the main sponsor of the championship taking place from January 17 to 24. Organizing a press meeting on Monday, the Association shared that the championship would be organized at the covered hall of the National Sports Council, Tripureshwor.
A total of 12 teams in men’s category and eight under women’s category are taking part in the championship, said Association General Secretary, Jitendra Bahadur Chand. Tribhuwan Army Club, Nepal Police Club, APF Club, Help Nepal, Manimukunda, Nayabazaar, Jawalakhel, Dhorpatan, Kavrepalanchowk, Gandaki state, RJ Volleyball Group and Parbati Youth Club are participating in the men’s category.
Similarly, Tribhuwan Army Club, Nepal Police Club, APF Club, Jawalakhel Club, New Diamond Club, Dhorpatan Club, Chitwan Tigers Club and Gandaki state are contesting in the championship under women’s category. An arrangement has been made where each team can include three foreign players in the team.
The winner team would bag a cash prize of Rs 200,000 while runner-up team would get Rs 100,000 and second runner-up team would receive Rs 50,000. Likewise, the best female and male volleyball player would be awarded with Rs 25,000 each.
On the occasion, Association Chair Manoranjan Raman Sharma presented token of love to Rastriya Banijya Bank, among others for their support to the Association.
Meanwhile, the parliamentary committee has agreed to endorse volleyball as the national game of the country.
Lawmakers participating in today’s meeting of Education and Health Committee under the House of Representatives agreed to mention volleyball as national game in the related act.
Discussing on the National Sports Development Bill-2075, passed by National Assembly, lawmakers agreed to include volleyball as the national game in the Bill.
