Cultural procession put off in Baglung

BAGLING: Cultural procession and performances of the Newar community in Baglung have been put off in a bid to contain the risk of coronavirus infection.

Shakya Kalyan Samaj Baglung’s secretary Manjul Shakya said it was decided to hold on performances of all dances as part of the Bhadaure procession this year. The decision to this effect was made in view of critical situation resulting from coronavirus pandemic, according to Shakya.

Artists from the Newar community used to perform Bassa, Lakhe, Jogi, Ropain, Howa, Ghoda and Katuwal dances from Janai Poornima (a sacred thread wearing day) every year.

The processions are taken as a means to promote reunion, fraternity, social cohesion and entertainment.
