Soti murder case: SC upholds order to send two minors to juvenile home



KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) has upheld a decision to keep minors allegedly involved in the Soti murder case in juvenile homes.

Upholding the order delivered by Rukum District Court, the apex court annulled a habeas corpus petition stating that the order to keep them in juvenile homes was correct as they are under 18 years.

A joint bench of justices Anil Kumar Sinha and Hari Phunyal passed the verdict.

The Rukum District Court on June 24 has sent 23 persons including a ward chair to judicial custody on the charge of murder while two minors went to juvenile home as per the decision of the court.

They are accused of murdering six youths in the mass murder that took place in Soti of Chaurjahari municipality-8 on May 23.

Likewise, one of the accused was released on a bail of Rs. 100,000 while three were freed on a general date, according to records keeper at the court Krita Bahadur Bohara.

The decision was handed down by District Judge Bidya Raj Poudel.

The district attorney had filed a case against 34 persons accused of involvement in the heinous act. Five people allegedly involved in the murder are still at large.
