Victims of crop failure given compensation

NAWALPUR: Paddy farmers in Gaidakot municipality in Nawalpur who suffered losses of hundreds of thousands of rupees due to crop failure have been finally compensated.

They got compensation of Rs 640 per kattha of land by the local government.

The amount was allocated by the centre, said municipality chief Chhatra Raj Poudel.

Farmers of ward 10 to 18 in the municipality suffered loss last year as the rice plants of Garima variety failed to bear fruit.

”Though the compensation amount is meagre, we have taken it as something is better than nothing. We have arranged for soil test from this year,” the municipality chief said.

Last year, the rice of Garima variety was mostly planted in Nawalpur, Chitwan, Kailali, Kanchanpur, Banke, Bardiya, Kapilvastu and Tanahu.
