WASHINGTON: Huge rallies took place across the United States against police brutality and racism on the 12th day of protests sparked by the death of George Floyd.

Thousands of people marched the streets in Washington DC dubbed as the largest protest so far.

Security forces, meanwhile, blocked them on the way to the White House.

People also demonstrated in other cities like Chicago, New York, and San Francisco.

People also paid respects to Floyd in North Carolina, where he was born.

Floyd, a black man, died in police custody in Minneapolis on 25 May.

According to video footage, a white police officer, Derek Chauvin, had kneeled on Floyd’s neck for around nine minutes while he is pinned to the floor.

Police officer Chauvin has been dismissed and charged with murder. Likewise, three other police officers present on the scene have been sacked and charged with aiding.

Meanwhile, large protests took place in other countries, including the United Kingdom, Australia, France, Spain and Germany.
