CIAA’s move against Gachchhadar a ‘vengeance’: NC

KATHMANDU: Irked with the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), the Nepali Congress (NC) has dubbed the charge against its Vice President Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar as nothing but an act of vengeance.

The main opposition party NC’s reaction comes after the CIAA on Wednesday filed a case against Gachchhadar, including 174 individuals in the Baluwatar Lalita Niwas land grab scam.

An emergency meeting of NC party office bearers discussed the CIAA charge sheet at the residence of party President Sher Bahadur Deuba in Budhanilkantha this morning.

Likewise, the party has instructed its youth organizations to take to streets against what it called a ‘bias decision’ against the party. Representatives of the youth organizations, including Tarun Dal, and Nepal Students’ Union are meeting at 3 pm today to discuss the issue.

“The party has taken this as a ploy to annihilate the party,” an NC leader told Khabarhub.

Likewise, the party is holding a press conference at 4 pm today at the party office, Sanepa to publicize its future course of action.

The anti-graft constitutional body lodged a corruption case against Gachchhadar at the Special Court alleging him of facilitating the land grab through the expansion of the Prime Minister’s official residence when he was the Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Planning.

Nepali Congress on Thursday initiated consultation with legal eagles on the issue.

Meanwhile, NC has raised serious concern over the CIAA’s decision to not charge Bishnu Poudel, General Secretary of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) after he decided to return the land that was registered in the name of his son, Navin Poudel.
