NC row: Poudel holds meeting with 40 district presidents

KATHMANDU: The disgruntled faction of the Nepali Congress (NC) led by party senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel held a meeting with 40 district presidents in Sanepa today.

Party presidents of 40 districts considered ‘close’ to Paudel and party leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula attended the meeting held at the party office in Sanepa.

Party central leaders, including Poudel, among others attended the meeting. However, district presidents close to party President Sher Bahadur Deuba have abstained from the meeting.

The meeting has been called to chalk out its future course of action as Deuba, who has remained adamant on his stance, has unilaterally extended his term and announced the date for the next general convention.

Deuba has, in a central working committee meeting, extended his term until March 3, 2021. Meanwhile, he has also decided to hold the party’s general convention from February 19-22, 2021.

Paudel, party General Secretary Shashank Koirala, Treasurer Sita Devi Yadav, and other dissatisfied leaders, however, had boycotted the December 27, 2019 meeting.
