RUKUM: Honey production in Sisne Rural Municipality- considered a pocket zone for beekeeping in Rukum West district — has decreased compared to previous years.

According to the beekeepers, unfavorable weather, cold wave and diseases on bees have resulted in low honey production this year.

According to beekeeper Om Prakash Khadka of Pokhara village in the rural municipality, the production of honey has come down this year despite their efforts.

Khadka, who owns over 160 beehives, had earned over Rs 500,000 last year.

According to him, the total output was decreased by half this year.

Likewise, Kamala Khadka of Pokhara village shared the same story as Om Prakash.

She said that the gradual decrease in pasturelands for the bees, poor technical knowledge, haphazard use of pesticides, and infection of diseases on bees are the major reasons for the low output.

The honey produced in this area is easily sold in Rukum West, Rukum East, and Dang.
