NCP requests Dr. KC to call off hunger strike

KATHMANDU: The ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has requested Dr. Govinda KC to call off his hunger strike.

Dr. KC is on a hunger strike at the Maharajgunj-based Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) for the past 23 days demanding reforms in the medical education sector.

A Secretariat meeting held at the official residence of Prime Minister KP Oli in Baluwatar urged Dr. KC to call off the strike, said NCP Spokesperson Narayankaji Shrestha.

“The previous agreement has been implemented. The party urges him to call off the strike,” said Shrestha.

Spokesperson Shrestha said PM Oli had briefed that the government has requested him to withdraw the strike.

“Medical education has improved a lot because of Dr. KC. The agreement reached with him has been implemented fully. The rest can be discussed later,” said Spokesperson Shrestha.
