Two rhinos dead on single day

CHITWAN: Two rhinoceroses have been found dead in Chitwan national Park (CNP) on a single day.

ThePark office said that one rhino was found dead at Balmiki Tiger Reserve area in India on Monday after it was swept away by the Narayani river.

CNP’s Information Officer, Ashok Ram, said information has been received from the Balmiki Tiger Reserve that the animal died after half an hour of being washed away by the Narayani via the Gandak Barrage.

Ram said the Balmiki Tiger Reserve cremated the dead rhino after conducting a post-mortem examination as per the Inadian protocol.

Another rhino has been found dead at the edge of the way east of the Number 1 view tower at Bankatta Bangachhiya under the CNP’s Sauraha sector.

The around 12 years old male rhino was found dead with dropped head. It is suspected that the animal might have died after falling sick following a clash with another rhino.

CNP stated that the back leg of the rhino is broken.

However, the horn and hoof of the dead rhino is intact, Ram said.

Seven rhinos have died due to various causes within three months alone of the current fiscal year inside the CNP.

There are 605 rhinos inside the CNP at present.  RSS
