BAITADI: The dam of Dhauliganga Hydroelectric Project based in Dhauliganga River in Pithoragarh of Uttarakhand, India, has been opened from noon Sunday.
The dam will remain open until 7 pm for the cleaning process.
The local administrations of Nepal and India have requested their citizens to be vigilant as the water level in the Mahakali River flowing through Darchula, Baitadi, Dadeldhura and Kanchanpur will increase with the opening of the dam.
According to the District Administration Office, Baitadi, the dam was opened, saying that regular cleaning must be done.
The administration has asked not to go near the river as the water level will rise.
Chief District Officer of Baitadi Mohan Raj Joshi has urged to be vigilant as there is risk in the area.
The 280-megawatt Dhauliganga Project Dam caused significant damage to the Darchula district headquarters in 2070 BS.
