Global COVID-19 cases hit 27 million, over 70 pc recover

KATHMANDU: More than 27 million people have been infected with the coronavirus pandemic that has been spreading around the globe.

Over 269,378 have been diagnosed with the coronavirus in a single day that put the global case tally to 27 million as of Sunday morning.

The number of deaths worldwide in the last 24 hours is 4,822 that took the number of deaths to 883,707. Out of total cases, 19.1 million (70.80 percent) have recovered so far.

Coronavirus has killed 209,778 people in European countries. European countries had witnessed 3.71 million cases and 2.15 million have recovered so far.

A total of 279,950 people have died in North American countries. The number of infections has reached 7.63 million. Of them, 4.53 million have been declared infection-free.

Similarly, 150,508 people have died in Asian countries. Out of 7.64 million people infected, 6.13 million have recovered and at least 211,546 people have died in South American countries. Of the 6.68 million infected, 5.28 million have recovered.

In African countries, 31,131 people have died as 1.29 million have been infected. Out of the infected, 1.3 million have won their fight against the coronavirus.

At least 779 people have died in Oceania and Australia. Of the 29,218 people infected, 24,601 have recovered.

Meanwhile, more than 90,000 people have been infected with coronavirus in India in a single day.

The number of coronavirus cases has reached 4.11 million as of Sunday morning after 90,600 cases were detected in 24 hours.

This is the highest number of infection cases in Asia and the third in the world after Brazil and America.

Among those infected, 3.17 million have recovered from the virus, while 862,487 are undergoing treatment at various isolation centers and hospitals.

Likewise, the number of deaths from coronavirus has crossed 70,000 in the country. With 1,044 new deaths in a single day, the number of deaths in India has reached 70,679, according to Worldometers.
