NCP may split if Oli does not maintain flexibility: Prachanda to Nembang

KATHMANDU: Ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal alias Prachanda has warned that the party would split if the Prime Minister does not become flexible on his stances.

Chairman Dahal said so in a meeting with Parliamentary Party Deputy Leader Subas Nembang at Khumaltar today, according to a source privy to the meeting.

Nembang reached Khumaltar at the request of Dahal at a time when the two heavyweights KP Oli and Dahal are failing to reach consensus on some thorny issues of the party.

Dahal had asked Prime Minister Oli over the telephone requesting the latter that he was willing to talk to Nembang, according to sources.

Nembang, however, was reluctant to reveal the matters that were discussed in the Khumaltar meeting.

Nembang said the discussion is heading towards a positive direction while stressing the need to forge consensus between the two chairmen.

Meanwhile, he denied the possibility of the meeting between Oli and Dahal today.

Dahal during the meeting with Nembang said the party is on the verge of split and if Oli does not exercise flexibility, the party will move ahead in line with the party’s statute, sources said.

On the other hand, Nembang said there is no alternative to moving ahead based on the consensus of two chairmen until the general convention of the party, warning that the party otherwise would fall in jeopardy.

Three meetings held between Oli and Dahal since Sunday have ended without a solution to the existing intraparty feud.

Monday’s scheduled meeting did not take place, citing a lack of preparations.
