Fire guts five houses in Jhapa, Chitwan

JHAPA: Three houses were gutted in a fire that broke out in the squatters’ settlement inside the Kankai community forest area in Kankai municipality. The incident took place on Saturday evening.

The houses of Jhakad Bahadur Darji, Amrita Shrestha and Thakur Singh Rai were fully gutted in the fire, according to the Area Police Office. The fire broke out in at around 4:15 pm from the house of Rai.

Fire tenders from Damak municipality and water tanker of the community forest users group and locals worked together to put out the fire. The reason behind the fire is not known yet.

Meanwhile, in Chitwan, two houses were burnt to ashes in a fire that took place on Saturday afternoon. The houses of Kul Bahadur Gharti and Chandra Bahadur Gharti in Tuntesh, Icchyakamana rural municipality-6 were gutted in the fire.

The fire is said to have originated from the solar power system installed in the houses, according to local resident Yam Bahadur Gurung. All food stock and clothing were destroyed in the fire.

The affected families are currently taking shelter in their neighbors’ homes. Exact details of the damaged cause would be known only by Sunday as it as a very remote place to reach, said ward chair Bhupendra Chepang.
