Police nabs 16 on power pilferage charge

BIRGUNJ: Parsa police has arrested 16 persons alleged on power pilferage from various parts of Parsa on Wednesday.

A joint team of Nepal Electricity Authority Pokhariya and District Police Office Parsa had launched a campaign against the people involved in power theft in various parts of Parsa including Pokhariya Municipality, Dhawini Rural Municipality, Jagarnath, Chhipaharmai and Kalikamai Rural Municipality.

Following the special information about the power pilferage by hooking the mainline, the joint team had arrested them Wednesday evening.

Parsa Police informed that due legal actions would be taken against those involved in the incident.

The power utility has been carrying out works like checking power pilferage, adopting stringent measures to recovering the arrears and strengthening the transformer, distribution line and the sub-stations as well as making arrangements for more of these for reducing the technical leakage, on a campaign basis.

Similarly, to reduce the bob-technical leakage, NEA has initiated works on a campaign footing for reducing electricity pilferage, taking stringent measures for realizing the arrears, taking strong action against persons involved in meter by-pass and electricity hooking, replacing the malfunctioning electricity meters, encouraging customers to take meters and identifying customers at whose houses electricity meters have not been read.
