Some 134 children died in Gujarat’s Rajkot hospital

GUJARAT: Around 134 children have died at a government hospital in Gujarat’s Rajkot in the last one month, according to Indian media reports.

Reports said that the cause of their death is being said to be diseases from birth, malnutrition, premature birth, and mother’s malnourishment.

According to Indian media reports, the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) lacks the capacity and required facilities to treat children weighing less than 2.5 kg.

According to records, Rajkot recorded 1,235 deaths of infants in 2019.

The state government has argued that over 400 children are admitted to hospitals every month. Out of them, around 90 children die of premature delivery and malnutrition. (Agencies)
