Nepal’s COVID-19 death toll reaches 554 with record-high 19 new fatalities



KATHMANDU: A total of 19 more COVID-19 patients, including 12 in Kathmandu Valley, died in the last 24 hours in a record high fatality recorded in a single day.

Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Population stated that the death toll from the pandemic has reached 554 with the new fatalities as of Monday afternoon.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, the deceased are 14 males and five females.

A 55-year-old man in Sunsari, two men aged 42 and 69 years in Sarlahi, six men aged 26, 65, 67, 78, 81 and 91 years in Kathmandu, three males aged 3, 55 and 71 years in Lalitpur and 36 years in Nawalaparasi died of the coronavirus.

Likewise, a woman aged 65 years in Parsa, 76, 81 and 83 years in Kathmandu and 45 years in Gorkha succumbed to the coronavirus.

Nepal had recorded seven coronavirus related deaths on Sunday.

Meanwhile, a total of 2,440 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed across the nation in the last 24 hours.

With this, the total number of coronavirus infections has reached 89,263.

In a regular press briefing today at the Ministry of Health and Population, Spokesperson Dr. Jageshwor Gautam said that the new number of coronavirus cases was confirmed in 13,781 PCR tests carried out in the last 24 hours.

A total of 1,088,229 PCR tests have been carried out so far.

On the occasion, it was shared that a total of 1,133 people returned home after recovery from coronavirus in the last 24 hours. With this, the number of people discharged after recovery has reached 65,202. The recovery percentage as of today is 73 percent.

The Kathmandu Valley recorded 1,531 coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours.

Nepal currently has 23,507 active cases.

Spokesperson Dr. Gautam added that a total of 12,316 people are in home isolation, 11,191 people in institutional isolation and 4,033 in quarantine facilities.
