KATHMANDU: Senior sports journalist Prajwal Oli has won prestigious sports media award hosted by the International Sports Press Association.
Oli clinched the ‘best column writing award’ leaving behind his competitive from 125 countries across the globe. Oli was declared winner amidst a grand program in Budapest, Hungary last night. He became successful in bagging the cash award of Rs 900,000. He is the sports bureau chief of the national broadsheet daily, The Kathmandu Post, and general-secretary of Nepal Sports Journalists’ Forum.
He is the first-ever Nepali national to clinch the award. He has been active in sports journalism for the past one-and-a-half decades. It may be noted that journalist Oli on 4 July 2019 had published the news entitled ‘Nepal barely plays 50 different sports but hosts nearly 200 sports association’.
The same news became the best journalism piece among the news sent by hundreds journalists from 180 countries across the globe. He said the award will also inspire new generation to further work hard in sports journalism.
Through a feature article, Oli had explored the issue of unnecessary establishment of sports associations in Nepal. The ISPA is an umbrella organization of sports journalists from across the globe. It is the association of sports journalists from 161 countries, including Nepal.
