MANANG: The normal life in Manang has been brought to a grinding halt due to snowfall continuing for the last 15 years.

Schools, market places have remained shut while the means of transportation stayed off the road. Two to three-foot snow has disrupted drinking water supplies and electricity, forcing the people to stay indoors.

The snowfall has hit tourists, government staffers and people in general as it resumed without melting the previous one.

The snowfall resumed at 7 am on Thursday and continued until 10 pm crippling the life of people in Manang, said Chief District Officer Pushpa Raj Paudel.

“The road and alley have been covered by two to three-foot snow. The sources of drinking water have frozen. The temperature has dipped to minus 12 degree Celsius. Locals are forced to hurdle around heater and wood fire,” said Paudel.

However, the snowfall has brought cheers to local farmers as it bodes well for good the harvest.

The snowfall has occurred in low-lying parts of the district such including Tachaigaun, Nachaigaun, Odargaun, Dharapani. Children and the elderly have been hit the hardest, said Bhim Bahadur, chairman of Naso-2.
