COVID-19 impact: NCP Secretariat, NC CWC meetings uncertain



KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Oli has suspended all non-essential meetings after 76 people, including his advisors, tested positive for the coronavirus.

It has pushed the Secretariat meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) slated for Sunday into uncertainty.

The Secretariat meeting scheduled at 4 pm yesterday to discuss the cabinet reshuffle, ambassadors’ appointment, among other contemporary issues, was postponed until today.

On Saturday, Chief Advisor to the Prime Minister Oli, Bishnu Rimal, Foreign Advisor Rajan Bhattarai, Press Advisor Surya Thapa, photographer Rajan Kafle and Chief Personal Secretary Indra Bhandari were confirmed to have the coronavirus.

As many as 65 security personnel deployed at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar have been infected with the coronavirus.

According to sources in Baluwatar, Prime Minister Oli’s swab sample was collected on Thursday. The sources added that his report was negative.

Meanwhile, the Central Working Committee meeting of the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) slated for Monday too has become uncertain after four central members diagnosed positive.

Central Working Committee members Arjun Narasingha KC, Gagan Kumar Thapa, Kalpana Chaudhary and Shambhu Lal Shrestha have tested positive for the COVID-19.
